Hips and Spine: Advanced Anatomy
October 3 - 4 2026
Saturday 1:45pm - 6:45pm, Sunday 1pm - 6pm
Focus on the anatomy, function, dysfunction, mechanics, and therapeutic application of the various actions of the hip from a yoga perspective
Led by: Lara Ederer
Study pelvis mechanics, disfunctions and anatomy to change your practice and your teachings!
As a yoga teacher grows in their profession, so do their challenges with meeting students where they are anatomically. As the yoga industry has grown, the diversity of students and their anatomical complexities exceed the 200 hour training level of anatomy education. Please join Lara Ederer, E-RYT 500 and Yoga Medicine Therapeutic Specialist for a 25 hour deep dive into the pelvis where the complex region of the body is explored through study, movement, and explorations.
This specialized training will focus on the anatomy, function, dysfunction, mechanics, and therapeutic application of the various actions of the hip from a yoga perspective. You will evolve and deepen your understanding and expand your knowledge, skill set and confidence as both a teacher and a student.
This module will help students learn how to improve hip mobility, strength, and stability, as well as the teachings of several hip focused asanas.
What is covered
Advanced Anatomy and mechanics: In this module we will be learning about the hip joint's structure, pelvic muscles, connective tissues, and surrounding structures as well as how to support its optimal function. The curriculum will include a short review of the foundational pelvic education from a 200 hour level before building on more complicated structural considerations, sequencing strategies, and expanding on individualized yoga applications for specialized groups.
Therapeutic applications: During our training we will be learning to understand more of how yoga can help with hip pain, dysfunction, and common injuries. We will integrate the anatomical studies into practical applications for the vast number of pelvic related concerns in both a private and class setting. We will use the empirical data of common yoga injuries as well as lifestyle related pelvic contraindications.
Deeping Knowledge of Specific poses: We will be exploring a wide variety of poses typically seen in classes including modifications as well as the exploration of a diverse spectrum of advanced options less often experienced in group classes. You will leave this class with the knowledge of strategic teaching of this spectrum of postures from foundational to complex.
Movement patterns: We will be analyzing and correcting common movement patterns that can lead to hip issues. In this training you will learn how to do a understand compensatory actions, muscle recruitment limitations, and other common issues in our students.
Functional movements: This training will also incorporate exercises that build strength and mobility for everyday life from the beginning yoga practitioner to the more experienced one.
This training will help support you as a yoga teacher seeking not only a deeper understanding of the physical mechanics of the pelvis, but also the opportunity to diversify the poses you offer your students from beginners to experienced.
This module will help support teachers as they grow in their profession from teaching in studios, private yoga settings, workshops, and specialty groups.
This module can be taken as part of the Viveka Yoga 500 hour YTT program or for independent continuing education. A foundation in anatomy is required from either a 200 hour level, kinesiology studies, personal trainers, or physical therapists.
This specialty hybrid module is an emerging form of training allowing students flexibility in their training schedules:
10 hours of recorded lectures, theory, and practices will be provided 2 weeks prior to in person learning where you can study at your own pace.
10 hours of in person studio training (schedule is below)
The remaining hours consist of academic work including a case study, workshop planning, and sequencing work.

Our clients say…
“Yoga for Everyone actually means Yoga for everyone at SolarYou. I was reluctant to go back in the studio after being out of practice and gaining weight during the pandemic. As a nurse, the pandemic took it's toll on my mental and physical health and I was looking for ways that I could begin to heal the trauma.
What I quickly learned is that everyone is kind, inclusive, and there to guide your practice at any stage of your journey. It's easy to be intimidated by taking the first step, but I have to admit, I'm hooked. In just a few weeks of consistent practice with a combination of in-studio and online classes, I'm amazed at how I can already see my body getting stronger, my confidence returning, and my nervous system starting to calm and reclaim its space. The teachers are stellar, every one of them! So far there isn't a class that I have not enjoyed and and have always left feeling a sense of accomplishment. If you're thinking about it and reading this review, this is the place for you.”
