Chelsey Ocean has been in the health and wellness field for over 18 years. She has a Masters of Science as a dietitian and experience as a certified diabetes educator and sports dietitian. She wanted to take the holistic nature of a healthy lifestyle one step further and after practicing yoga for 10 years, received her 200 RYT with Greta Hill trained as a Rasa style yoga teacher. While taking this training 28 weeks pregnant, she also found a passion for helping women through their pregnancies with yoga and soon thereafter became a prenatal yoga teacher training under Julia Piazza. Pursuing extremes like running 5 marathons and competing in 5 body building competitions, Chelsey feels yoga is the perfect way to find balance among extremes and aims to create flows and space to help her students seek that balance in their life too.

How to Choose the Right Yoga Practice During Pregnancy.
The type of yoga you choose during pregnancy depends on several important factors.
The first is your pregnancy condition — if it is a high-risk pregnancy, I recommend attending prenatal yoga classes only if your doctor allows practice.
The second factor is your fitness background and training form before pregnancy.
If you haven’t practiced yoga or any other form of exercise before, it’s best not to start with power or strong flow classes. In this case, if you are in the early stages of pregnancy, have no medical restrictions, and feel the desire to move more, I suggest starting with Slow Flow (especially with Lara Ederer on Wednesday nights), Yin Yoga, or some Deep Stretch classes.
If you are already an active and well-trained person, you can attend more dynamic classes, depending on how you feel — but remember, not all instructions in a regular class will apply to you. Avoid working with bandhas and abdominal engagement, as these can increase uterine tone or cause strain. Maintain open communication with your teacher during class and never hesitate to ask for modifications — your safety and comfort are always the priority.
Always make sure your instructor knows you are pregnant, so they can offer proper modifications.
For all pregnant students, I also recommend bringing juice, coconut water, or having a light snack (such as fruit or a small vegetable) shortly before class to help maintain stable blood sugar levels throughout your practice.

I’m Irina Novikova, the owner of SolarYou Yoga Studio. Motherhood has been one of the most beautiful and transformative experiences of my life. My pregnancy and home birth, supported by my yoga teacher and doula Collette Crawford, became a living expression of everything yoga teaches — strength, trust, and surrender.
After completing my prenatal yoga certification, I knew I wanted to create a space where women could feel safe, supported, and celebrated through every stage of motherhood. Launching prenatal yoga classes is my first step toward building that community of care and connection.
I designed our studio with this vision in mind — warm light, clean air, no mirrors, and soft, calm energy that welcomes every woman as she is. Soon, I hope to open postnatal yoga classes where mothers can return to gentle movement with their newborns, surrounded by compassion and joy.
✨ May our world be filled with more happy women and joyful children.
